Legal requirement for a marriage in Spain
Catholic weddings
You can get married in Spain if just one of the party is a catholic with the same regulation as your local church, churches are booked up in advanced so early booking is advised. When you are married the paper work must be lodged with the civil registry in the locality in Spain which you got married.
  • Neither party can be divorced
  • If one of you is not a catholic then you need to request a dispensation from your bishop
  • You must first talk to your local priest
  • Complete paper work
  • Which is then pass onto the bishop of Malaga
Civic marriage
Information from the civic register in Madrid the requirement for marrying in it is important to note that paper work is lengthy and time consuming:
  • Passport x2
  • Birth certificate Resident of Spain ( empadronamiento)
  • local town hall Consular certificate of non impediment to the marriage
  • Consular registration certificate

 

Gibraltar
Recognized all over the world, In order to get married in Gibraltar you must satisfy the register that you are free to marry.
Single person
  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport x 2
  • Certificate of no impediment marriage

Divorced person

Person who has been married and divorced

  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport x 2
  • Your previous marriage certificate/s
  • Your final and absolute divorce decree nisi, or annulment
  • Change of name deed if you have changed your name by deed poll.
